Survivorââ¬â¢s Quest
For any of them to survive on a remote island, they would have to have the physical capacity to endure the harshness of the wilderness. They should also have the mental and emotional maturity to know when and how to help out and not be a burden to their group. They would have to learn how to live away from their comfort zone. The first best choice would be Father Franz, and not merely because he is a priest. He has the physical strength to live in that kind of environment and he has a farming background which will be of great help in terms of a sustainable food production for the group. He would also be a good candidate to be the leader of the group and again, not just because he is a priest, but because of his being active in civil rights guarantees that he will be just and fair in relating with his islandmates. His being liberal also guarantees that his judgments will always be towards the good of them all; not restricted by religious his biases. His being a priest however makes him a better moral uplifter for them the survivors. The next good choice would be Mr. Blake. He is an outdoors man so his knowledge and skills would be essential for their survival. His construction experience will also become handy in making a shelter for them. His prejudices against blacks however might become a problem for them. Dr. Gonzalez may be an experienced doctor, a skill that would be of great value to all of them in the island. However, he is old, and has already lived a full life. Mr. Newton on the other hand, still has one year to finish in med school. What he has learned in school cannot compare to what Dr. Gonzalez has learned through years of medical practice. However, he is young and can still keep on learning. Provided that he did his homework back in school, what he has learned should be enough for him to be able to treat any ailments and injuries his co-survivors might acquire while they are at the island. He will suddenly be able to put what he has learned in practice. Therefore, Mr. Newton should be allowed on the boat. The two children: Jean Garcia and Bobby Dane should also be allowed on the boat. They are very young and should have the privilege to experience life. But at their age, for them to survive on the island, they would need their parents to nurture them. It was not indicated specifically whether Mrs. Garcia is indeed Jeanââ¬â¢s mother. Assuming that she is, she might not have much to present in terms of intelligence and regarding her past, unlike most of the other candidates who has many achievements to enumerate, but she is Jeanââ¬â¢s mother, therefore she should be given the chance to raise her child the way she sees fit. Bobby on the other hand is a special case. His condition requires someone to take care of unconditionally him in long terms. That role would be best fulfilled by his parents. His mother should be the best candidate for that. However, she is diabetic. Her condition makes her very fragile especially in a remote island where she would not receive her proper treatment. She might not live long enough to take care of her son. Therefore his father, Dr. Dane should be allowed on the boat instead. He is physically healthy to live long enough to care for Bobby. For such a varied group of people to survive and live together on a remote island, they should all be matured enough to disregard their religious and racial ideologies. They should learn to work and cooperate with each other in order to live harmoniously.

Which Place Do You Prefer to Live?
Which place do you prefer to leave: in a small town or in a big city ? Small towns and big cities both have their good sides. First big cities have unlimited choices of things you can do. There is always a lot to do and visit. Living in a big city is more comfortable because there are cinemas, theaters, museums, shops, malls, lots of restaurants to choose. There are a lot of possibilities of shopping. Secondly the standard of education is also very high in big cities. People have many oportunities and itââ¬â¢s also much easier to find a well paid job.Teenagers can receive a good education in big cities because universities have different subjects. So, an argument in favour of living in a big city is that students can have more choices for their future careers. In a big city there are many people that you don't know and you can make many friends comparative to a small town where people always know something about you. Also famous singers or personalities come in big cities so you c an meet your favourite singer and take an autograph. Lastly big cities have other conveniences like airports and good hospitals.I think that to many teenagers big cities are exciting while the small towns are boring. Coming down to me I prefer living in a small town than in a big city because I donââ¬â¢t like noise and crowded places. I stayed in Bucharest for 2 weeks and it was too long for me. I had never ever been so tired than that time. Every night I had heard motorcycles, cars, dogs, horns, people talking very loudly. The first advantage of living in a small town is a healthy life. One of the conditions that helps us to be healthy is good weather and less population that exist in a small town. Also, in a small town there are less crowded and less traffic. Living in a place with less pollution such as air pollution or sound pollution helps us to have a healthier life and one of the main consequences is less stress and more happiness. In addition, in a small town foods and mat erials we need are healthier than in big cities. Therefore living in small towns is healthier than in big cities. Secondly, another advantage of small towns is living costs which is cheaper than in big cities. In particular, in a small town we can live in big houses with beautiful landscapes. Transportation cost is less than in big cities and we have less traffic so that we can save time and money. In conclusion, I prefer to live in a small town and I think it has some advantages such as less stress. In small town people know each other and have better relationships together than big cities therefore, in my opinion, in big cities people feel alone and depress. And it is obvious that people in small town have more happiness and friendships and less illness.

Reflective Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Reflective Assignment - Essay Example Reid (1993) posits to the effect that a reflection is a process of reviewing an experience of practice in order to describe, analyse, evaluate and so inform learning about practice. Having undertaken the Glo-bus business simulation in a team from early October 2012 up to the end of January 2013, the aim of this report is to carry a reflective analysis of the experience I gained from working in this team. This simulation game was supposed to put us in a realistic and competitive market setting as well as to try to manage the companyââ¬â¢s operations. The decisions made were supposed to be evaluated against the decisions made by other competitors comprised of other class members. In order to win the simulation, teamwork is a virtue. From the Glo-bus business simulation, I can safely say that we attained something positive though we also encountered negative aspects in our team. Therefore, I would like to start by reflecting on the things we have done well and I will also reflect on the areas that were badly done. The main part of the paper will focus on the theoretical framework of the concept of teamwork as well as to reflect the measures that can be taken to improve the success of teams in organizations. Summary of the simulation game My team was comprised of Anyta Burton, Vira Yurcheto, Muntazer Mohammad, Agil Mohastov and myself. In this team, we were supposed to log on to Glo-bus and familiarise ourselves with the system. We were also supposed to work on the weaknesses identified as a team in order to improve the performance of Glo-bus. We were also supposed to have periodic group meetings that were designed to reflect on the progress made as well as to highlight the areas that needed some sort of improvement. The major strength in our team is that our communication system was clear and open and there was mutual understanding among all members. The team leader played an active role in coordinating as well as controlling all communication processes in the group. All decisions made in the group were reached through consensus and consultations among all members of the team were held prior to the implementation of the decision agreed. We realised that this strategy was very effective in dealing with aspects related to conflicts among the members of the team. The other strength is that we managed to influence all the members of the group to have a positive sense towards the simulation process that we carried out. Indeed, we encountered some challenges in carrying out this exercise but to a certain extent, it can be noted that the combined efforts of the group members played a significant role in carrying out the simulation exercise. The main weakness we encountered in our team is that some of the members were not very confident in what they were doing. This certainly impacted the overall performance of the team. We identified seven weaknesses that were supposed to be dealt with. Only two of them were solved while the remaining five requi red solutions from us as a team. The problem here is that team members like Agile lacked confidence in themselves and they did not effectively play their role. For instance, Mo was backing Agile Mohastov after realising that he was slack in his performance. We also had little confidence in him that he would perform to a high level of performance and requirement. This certainly i

One, who may manage and organize all the functions of a group, is depicted as a leader of that association. Once, while working in the organization of Colgate-Palmolive, I attained the opportunity to lead a group of members. Such a decision is taken by the management of the organization of Colgate-Palmolive to make a presentation on the importance of leadership and the essential skills and talents required by a leader. After hearing the decision, it was in a dilemma, whether I might be able to motivate the members of the group to attain the target or not. However, very soon, I sort out my dilemma by thinking about my interpersonal relationship with all other members. It was my most important strength to maintain a group or motivate the group members. With the help of my i nterpersonal communication skill, I easily motivated all other members towards the objective of making the presentation successful among other teams. Other than this, I also influenced the members by presenting the idea of ââ¬Å"Reward or incentivesâ⬠, on attainment of targets (of making an effective presentation). This idea, proved extremely effective for the team mates and they became quite confident and dedicated towards their duties and responsibilities of the organization of Colgate-Palmolive. This helped them to attain their goals resulting in fulfillment of my objective as well. Side by side, it also helped me in reducing the rate of conflicts among my team mates thereby amplifying their interpersonal relationships. As a result, the desire to help one another might also get enhanced that proved extremely effective for both employees and Colgate-Palmolive as well. Moreover, at that time, I also helped my team mates with varied types of ideas and details so as to make the presentation effective and informative. So, such an activity would remain always fresh in my minds. So that, all the

Film review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Film review - Essay Example Mean Streets illustrates the hierarchies in the criminal underworld and the disparities and want that afflict crime agents at the lower cadre of the shadowy organizations. The film follows through the lives and fate of two main characters, Charlie and Johny boy who endure the torments and challenges of the criminal world in their respective ways. One of the characters, Charlie aspires to re-establish connections with his moral and spiritual self while the other appears destined for self-destruction as a matter of individual weaknesses. The choice and performance of characters in this film add to the quality and authenticity of the film as each one of them portrays the natural qualities that are expected of criminal actors. In sum, the actions and attitudes of the characters are nearly in perfect consistency with their assigned roles. Most precisely, the characters of Johny boy and Charlie are brought out in perfect harmony with the reality of criminal agents. The two characters fit well into their roles without the mismatch of maintaining the balance of action and character. The disintegration and dehumanization of Johny boy is captured in grim details that illustrate the affliction and erosion of personality as the individual gets sucked deeper in the vaults of criminality. On the other hand, the character of Charlie is used as a foil to reflect on the evident descent of Johny boy into an ignoble human that is incapable of sustaining any meaningful engagement even with his most trusted ally, Charlie (Scorsese). Charlieââ¬â¢s situation is used to direct the viewer to the often-ignored facts of the criminal world. From his character, we learn that not all players in the criminal world are unrepentant and rigid. Criminality is brought out as any other social condition that could suck any person within the society through temptation or peer pressure. For instance,

Macroeconomics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 3
Macroeconomics - Essay Example They are growing fast which leads to the proposition that they will soon catch up with the western nations. The economic growth of India and China is bound to take the world in storm, making it easier to utilize their structural reforms and economic growth to structure a new model for the world to adopt. For the better part of the twentieth century, the west knew that the only way of gaining any advantage over them is by creating a platform that the rest of the world could only copy. Any country that copied the western prescriptions would prosper and stabilize, yet this obscured way of thinking did not hold any ground when the world needed to rise above the recessions that came thereafter (Levi 115). The western model seen as the most important part of civilization in the past was nothing more than a mere wish for the rest of the world. It was slowly fading away and new giant economies arose to fill in the gap and present new ideologies that work for the betterment of the society as a whole. The west was no longer an important force in the world economy based on their achievements. New economies were making them seem as if the past years were all inconsequential in meeting their immediate goals (Levi 116). India and China have set a mark that many countries see as the next determinant of what to expect in the economic world. These two countries are some of the largest economies in the world today, and China already surpassed the US as the largest economy in the world. India, on the other hand, is a great competitor for the ever-growing Chinese economy, and economists argue that it is going to beat China in the race to the top of the largest growing economy in the world (Levi 117). The one thing that will make it easier to rise to the top for the countries across the world to make it to the top of the growing economies is the amount of time they place in

FINANCE (ratio analysis) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
FINANCE (ratio analysis) - Essay Example 1.3.1 Both Interest Cover and capital gearing ratios proved that BAE uses more debt than Cobham to operate its business. The risk of BAE not being able to pay its debt is certainly higher than Cobham's. 2.2.1 ROCE measures the profitability of the company in capital investment. Even though ROCE declined for Cobham from 2004 to 2005, but it is still higher than both values of ROCE for BAE in both years. 2.3.1 Profit margin measures earnings from every dollarof sales. It is used to compare companies that operate within the same industry. Even though Cobham profit margin has decreased from 17% in 2004 to 14% n 2005, but it is still higher than BAE' profit margin which averaged about 8% during 2004 and 2005. In 2005, Cobham retained $0.14 as profit from every dollar of sales while BAE retained $0.08 for every dollar of sales it generated. This indicates that Cobham has better control over its costs and is more profitable than BAE. 3.1.1 Working capital measures company operations efficiency and predicts short range operational. By comparing BAE and Cobham's working capital, it was found that Cobham is more capable than BAE in paying its short term debts. 3.2.1 This test is better than the working capital ratio because it measures whether a firm has enough short-term assets to cover its liabilities without selling inventory. Both firms exhibit less than one value indicating the difficulty I paying debt, However, Cobham has higher score than BAE and thus Cobham has better financial situation than BAE. 3.3 Summary of Liquidity Ratios 3.3.1 Working capital and liquidity test suggest that Cobham was more capable than BAE in meeting its short term liabilities in 2004 and 2005.
